The rainbow sequin-clad Bellydancers vie for mirror space with the feathered Samba dancers, the Hip-Hop Fire Spinners, the Tango Temptress and the Polynesian Goddesses in the coconut bras. We hear finger cymbals, earthy Tribal World-beat funk, surf rock, Bollywood pop, a Gypsy violin and mysterious Arabic rhythms. We are backstage at Leela’s Arabia Exotica 2003: ChiaraScuro (Lightness & Dark) at Monte Christo Nightclub in Los Angeles, CA on Sunday, November 2nd, where over 60 performers will seamlessly blend the ancient, exotic art of Bellydance with the thrilling theatrics of Modern dance styles from across the world, including Cabaret Jazz, Go-Go Dance, Flaming Hula Hoops, Classical Indian Dance, Argentine Tango, Brazilian Samba, Flamenco,Trip-Hop Funk, International Dance Star Mésmera, Farhana (Princess of Hollywood) and more! In it’s third year, Leela’s Arabia Exotica will explore the dynamic themes of Light and Dark, and experiment with performances in the mysterious Shadow Land between worlds; perfect for Halloween weekend, the show will include a secret abduction by Vampire Gypsies, Wicca Ritual, dramatic Sword Battles, a Masked Costume Carnivale and a heart-pumping performance by The Mutaytor, a live percussion/performance group born at Burning Man. Audience members are invited to wear fantasy costumes (if they dare!), and stay for the sizzling WorldBeat Dance Party after the show. Arabia Exotica 2003 takes place on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at Monte Cristo Nightclub, 659 S. Westmoreland, Los Angeles, CA.
